January Studio Notes
What a month it’s been in the studio. The Year of the Horse has truly kicked in, and I’m very much ready for the ride.
2026 has started on a real high, bringing with it some wonderful opportunities, inspiring collaborations, and the chance to work on some beautiful products with very talented people. I’m feeling incredibly grateful for how the year has begun.
I was hoping to be posting more on my blog, but thats not quite gone to plan, so here is a monthly recap!
This month has included:
• Visiting the head office of a new client to meet the team and immerse myself in their product and ethos. It was genuinely lovely to be back in an office environment. As much as I value the flexibility of remote work, freelancing has reminded me how much I thrive in collaborative spaces. A shared studio might well be on the cards this year if things continue to grow.
• Building a seasonal design strategy to act as a clear anchor point for a brand’s design and buying teams, something to return to throughout the season and use as a guiding tool to keep us all teams heading in the same direction.
• Deep-diving into trend research and designing nightwear for SS27. I love the start of a new season! It feels like a reset. I also love creating purposeful mood boards that tell a story while clearly calling out key shapes, fabrics, and trims.
• Putting together strategic fabric packs to support team trips to Première Vision. Anyone who’s been knows how vast and exciting it is, so focused prep really helps make time there more efficient and productive. I cant wait to see what this team finds.
• One of my favourite stages of the process: fitting samples and refining tech packs, working closely with factories in China, India, and the UK. I’ve also loved introducing 3D fitting into the workflow, the efficiencies and benefits are genuinely game-changing for the industry.
• Supporting two start-ups ahead of their launches this year. It’s going to be a very exciting year for them, and I’m thrilled to be part of their journey and see where they go!!
• Slowly but surely relaxing into the remote way of working. After spending most of my career in the corporate world, this has been a shift, but working from the beautiful SeaSpace, with that view, really hit the spot. I just wish it was on my doorstep. Fancy making a spot in Falmouth SeaSpace??
On a personal note, I’ve been enjoying morning walks by the sea again, (weather permitting, it feels like Cornwall has hosted one continuous storm this month). Nature and the coastline are a huge source of inspiration for me and strongly influence the kind of products I want to put out into the world.
And finally...and most importantly, I have some space opening up in my diary. If you want a designer who creates thoughtful and purposeful designs, Im your lady!
Here’s to a strong start and an exciting year ahead 🐎✨
