How I have found my first few months as a Freelance Fashion Designer…

I can’t quite believe it’s nearly 4 months since I was made redundant from my senior designer role at Seasalt Cornwall. I was there for over 10 year, so it has been an adjustment.

When I first found out my role wasn’t safe, I had to quickly start making moves as relocating from Cornwall just wasn’t an option with my husband’s business being based in Cornwall and my son being settled in school. The natural step for me was to step into the world of freelancing, and what a journey it’s been so far!

Some people might say being a freelance fashion designer is an easy shift. However, freelancing in fashion is not for the faint hearted and it's not an 'easy gig'. It has definitely taught me a lot of new skills. Im not ‘just’ a freelance fashion designer anymore. I have had to reach out of my comfort zone and become my own marketing team, copy writer, website builder, blog writer, accountant, process mapper, networker, sales person… the list goes on!

But alongside the challenges, I’ve discovered things I really enjoy, such as meeting new people, helping brands build strong collections, and putting my 17 years of building my fashion design skills into action and developing my skillset in all the above.

If your business or team needs an experienced remote fashion designer to step in and support, I’d love to chat. Equally, if you just fancy a quick virtual coffee to connect and say hello, I’m always up for that too ☕

Drop me a message here as I would love to hear from you.
